Born in Lucerne, Switzerland, Mauro Peter received his musical training at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Fenna Kügel-Seifried, and in Helmut Deutsch’s Lied class. In 2012, he was the winner of Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau, where he was awarded the 1st Prize and the Audience prize. In the same year, he made his successful debut as a lieder recitalist at the Schubertiade in Hohenems and Schwarzenberg, performing Die schöne Müllerin with Helmut Deutsch.

Many recitals followed in the most distinguished concert halls and opera houses all over Europe such as at Vienna’s Musikverein and Konzerthaus, Musikverein Graz, London’s Wigmore Hall, Antwerp’s deSingel, KKL Lucerne, Opera Frankfurt, and at the Zurich Opera. In 2016, he made his debut as recitalist at the Salzburg Festival with Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin.

Equally successful on the concert platform Mauro Peter sang Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion with Nikolaus Harnoncourt at Vienna’s Musikverein and with William Christie at the KKL Lucerne, Bruckner’s F MINOR MASS with Marc Albrecht and Beethoven’s C Major Mass with Fabio Luisi. Further highlights were Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion under the baton of Thomas Quasthoff at the Verbier Festival, Schmidt’s Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln with Manfred Honeck at Vienna’s Musikverein and Mozart’s Requiem with Ivor Bolton in Salzburg. He has also worked with leading conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, John Eliot Gardiner or Cornelius Meister.

In 2013, Mauro Peter made his debut as Knappe in Wagner’s Parsifal under Christian Thielemann at the Easter Festival in Salzburg as well as in the role of Tamino at Opéra de Lyon. Since the 201314 he has been a member of the Zürich Opera House, where he had his debut has Jaquino in Beethoven’s Fidelio under Fabio Luisi followed by Eurimacho in Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria under Ivor Bolton.

Further he had his highly acclaimed debuts as Ferrando in Così fan tutte and Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, both in a concert version at the Theater an der Wien under Harnoncourt. With the title role in Mozart’s Il re pastore he had his debut at the Komische Oper Berlin, and as Apollo in Monteverdi’s Orfeo at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich under Ivor Bolton. In 20142015 he appeared for the first time as Tamino in a new production of Mozart’s Zauberflöte at the Zurich Opera and as Alessandro in Mozart’s Re pastore. In the role of Tamino Mauro Peter also made his debut at the Opéra Bastille in Paris. The season 20152016 included A British warrior/King Arthur, Tamino/Zauberflöte and Ferrando/Così fan tutte at the Zurich Opera as well as his much acclaimed debut as Tamino/Zauberflöte at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich. He also returned to the Salzburg Festival, where he has been regularly invited since 2012, as Ferrando in Mozart’s Così fan tutte.

During the season 20162017 he can be heard as recitalist in Bolzano, Lugano, Graz, Dortmund, Berlin, Madrid, Aix-en-Provence, at Vienna’s Musikverein and London’s Wogmore Hall as well as with a duo program with the soprano Christiane Karg in Feuchtwangen, Colgne, Hamburg and at the Schubertiade Hohenems.

This season he will further make his debuts at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse and at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan – for the first time he will appear as Belmonte in Mozart’s Entführung aus dem Serail. In Zurich, his artistic home, he will return with Don Ottavio /Don Giovanni and Haydn’s Orlando Paladino; in Munich he will sing Ferrando in Mozart’s Così fan tutte.

In April 2015 the Wigmore Hall Edition released Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin, followed by a Sony solo album with Schubert/Goethe Lieder in August 2015. Fall 2016 will bring a new Sony solo album with Lieder by Robert Schumann.
