#UncleJohn in Toronto

Jenna Simeonov

Against the Grain Theatre’s production of #UncleJohn opens this Thursday, to the delight of indie opera lovers in Canada. After its initial premiere this summer at the Cave and Basin National Historic Site in Banff, AB, #UncleJohn has sparked much anticipation from audiences here in Toronto. AtG Artistic Director Joel Ivany and #UncleJohn conductor/pianist Miloš Repický took some time to talk about updating Mozart’s Don Giovanni, trying out new spaces, and creating a tailor-made opera for Toronto audiences.

The cast:

Betty Allison (Anna) John Avey (The Commander) Sean Clark (Ottavio) Neil Craighead (Leporello) Aaron Durand (Masetto) Sharleen Joynt (Zerlina) Miriam Khalil (Elvira) Cameron McPhail (Uncle John) Gregory Finney (Uncle John understudy)

#UncleJohn plays December 11-19th at the Black Box Theatre, 1087 Queen St W, Toronto, and you should absolutely see this show. Tickets and details are available right here.
