Soprano Evan Kardon from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is currently a Studio Artist with the Florida Grand Opera. Her mainstage work in the 201819 season will include Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Mrs. Ford in Frida and Sophie in a new production of Werther. She will return to Des Moines Metro Opera as an Apprentice Artist to cover Musetta in La Bohème this Summer. Ms. Kardon’s 201718 mainstage season included the roles of Amor in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, as well as the role of Slave in Strauss’ Salome.

Ms. Kardon is honored to have won First Place and Top Audience Choice in the Lois Alba Competition in Houston, Texas on June 25, 2017. In the 2016-2017 season, Ms. Kardon participated in the Opera Philadelphia chorus in Turandot and Le Nozze di Figaro. Her Summer plans include returning to the Middlebury Language Institute to continue pursuing fluency in the German Language, as well as to sing Susanna in a condensed version of Des Hochzeit des Figaros.

In the Summer of 2016, Ms. Kardon performed in Saratoga Springs, NY as an Apprentice with Saratoga Opera. She covered the role of Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro and sang the Second Fairy in the American Premiere of Philip Glass’ The Witches of Venice. In January 2016, she participated in the Metropolitan National Council Auditions, where she was one of four District finalists and advanced to Regionals. In the Summer of 2015, Ms. Kardon was an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera, where covered the role of Blonde in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail, as well as sang in several scenes programs including Massenet’s Manon and Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier.

Before graduating from the San Francisco Conservatory, Evan had the privilege of performing the roles of Atalanta in Handel’s Serse, Poppea in Monteverdi’s Incoronazione di Poppea, and Adina in L’elisir d’Amore. In the 2014 summer season, Ms. Kardon performed the role of Une Dame in Wolf Trap Opera’s production of Les Mamelles de Tirésias, as well as covered the title role. Evan also performed in the studio scenes program as the Controller in Johnathan Dove’s Flight and Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro. Ms. Kardon has been a Young Artist at OperaWorks, CoOPERAtive, and in the summer of 2012, she performed the roles of La bergère/La chouette in the International Vocal Arts Institute’s production of L’enfant et les sortilèges in Montreal.

She is a graduate of Rice University with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, where she performed various scenes as Norina in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Frasquita in Bizet’s Carmen, Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and the Governess in Britten’s Turn of the Screw. When Ms. Kardon is not singing, she is trying to master the German language, volunteering her time at animal shelters, and spending time with her 3-year old French Bulldog named Eugene.
