Canadian Soprano Emily Dorn is thrilling audiences with her “warm, rich middle, a shimmering, flexible top, excellent control… and her exquisitely beautiful delivery.” Since joining the Dresden Semperoper in 2013 she has performed Violetta in La Traviata, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte, and Micaela in Carmen opposite Marcello Giordani. She made her Savonlinna Opera Festival debut in 2014 as Micaela and returned there this past summer as Susanna in a new production of Le Nozze di Figaro.

In 2016 she returned to Dresden Staatsoper as Musetta, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Adele in Die Fledermaus and Regina in Mathis der Mahler, she also performed concerts with the Jerusalem Symphony and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2016-2017 she will join Opera de Lausanne for the role of Mimi in La Boheme, and will debut L’opera de Montreal as Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and will also return to Dresden as Micaela in Carmen, Musetta, Pamina, and Susanna.

She returned to the US for her debut with Opera Theatre of St. Louis for Smetana’s The Kiss in 2014. She has performed Violetta with Opera in Williamsburg, the title role in Romeo et Juliette with Lyric Opera Virginia and Palm Beach Opera, and Mimi in La Boheme with Opera Southwest.

Recent engagements included Rienzi with Opera Orchestra of New York, Norina with the Green Mountain Opera Festival, and Lucy in The Telephone with Opera in Williamsburg. In the 2010-2011 season she covered the role of Inez in L’Africaine with Opera Orchestra of New York, performed Alice Ford in Falstaff with Mannes Opera, and was Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore with International Vocal Arts Institute. Other previous credits include Violetta in La Traviata, Blanche de la Force in the Dialogues of the Carmelites, and Despina in Cosi fan tutte with the Mannes Opera Theatre. Her portrayal of Blanche in Dialogues of the Carmelites was warmly praised by the New York Times, stating, “she sang with radiant tone and superb diction.” She has performed in La Traviata and La Tragedie de Carmen with the International Vocal Arts Institute and Nella in Gianni Schicchi at Opera McGill. With Opera in Concert, Emily sang the role of Clarissa in Die Drei Pintos, and the title role in The Merry Widow with Toronto Operetta Theatre. Emily also performed the role of Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos at Tanglewood Music Center, under the baton of Maestro Christoph von Dohnanyi, and has been featured in concert at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.

Emily has been the recipient of numerous honors, recently winning first place in the New England Region Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She has also won Second Place Awards from the Gerda Lissner and Guilio Gari International Voice Competitions. She is a Grant Winner from the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation, and an Encouragement Grant winner from the George London Foundation.

She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from McGill University, a Masters degree and Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes College.
