Learn: Opera in the City

Jenna Simeonov

Looking to enhance your opera-going experience? The Royal Conservatory of Music offers Opera in the City, a four-week look into two of Toronto’s upcoming shows, La traviata (opening at the Canadian Opera Company October 8th) and Armide, opening October 22nd with Opera Atelier.

“Immerse yourself in the music, the plot, and the characters; hear arias sung by students of the Glenn Gould School; and study excerpts from the libretto (English translations provided).”

The course runs Tuesdays, 1-3pm, from September 29 to October 20th, and it’s led by Eric Domville, Professor Emeritus in English literature at the University of Toronto. If you’ve attended a pre-show chat at the COC or Opera Atelier, you may have heard Eric speak.

For Schmopera readers, the RCM is offering a promotional 10% off the course, with the promo code FALL2015 at checkout. Opera nerds really love their opera, and this is a perfect chance to learn, listen, and become one of us. For more details, click here.
