Claire Kuttler

Praised for her “glistening torrents of sound” (Opera News), American lyric soprano Claire Kuttler is a versatile singing actress, whose characters come to life with psychological depth and intensity onstage. Currently, Ms. Kuttler is a returning apprentice artist at Bel Canto at Caramoor, after appearing last summer in Caramoor’s recital series and in Dialogues des Carmélites, under the direction of Will Crutchfield. Previously this season, Ms. Kuttler won an encouragement award from the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation and was a semi-finalist in the Opera Birmingham Vocal Competition. She also made her debut with the Light Opera of New York as Rosie in Jerome Kern’s Sally and will be featured on the cast recording released later this year through Albany Records.

Ms. Kuttler has performed across the United States with Palm Beach Opera, Central City Opera, Fargo Moorhead Opera, the Green Mountain Opera Festival, the Crested Butte Music Festival, Opera LaFayette, the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra and the New Jersey Festival Orchestra. Her operatic repertoire includes Mimì/La Bohème, Antonia/Les Contes D’Hoffmann, Female Chorus/The Rape of Lucretia, Governess/The Turn of the Screw, Donna Elvira/Don Giovanni, La Contessa/Le Nozze di Figaro, Fiordiligi/Così fan tutte, Arabella/Arabella, Desdemona/Otello, Susannah/Susannah and Hanna Glawari/Die Lüstige Witwe.

A passionate performer of American work, she originated the role of Elaine O’Neill in John Musto’s Later the Same Evening in 2007, sang Emily Webb in Ned Rorem;s Our Town with Palm Beach Opera in 2014 and was a concerto competition winner with Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 at the Mannes College of Music in 2012. She has also had the honor to sing for President Barack Obama at his official inaugural prayer service on January 20, 2008 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Kuttler is a graduate of the Mannes College of Music with a Professional Studies Diploma, the University of Maryland, College Park with a Master’s degree and from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN with a Bachelor of Music degree, Magna Cum Laude.
